It has been so incredible to watch the students grow as mathematicians. We have been working on recognizing, writing and representing numbers 0-10. We have also been working on composing and decomposing numbers as well a recognizing more and fewer. Recently, we started playing a math game where we can compare two numbers and determine the difference by finding out how many more.
In reading, we have been working on retelling favorite stories. We started by identifying the characters and setting of each story and then retold the beginning, middle and end. We started with The Three Bears and The Three Pigs. This week we will be working on The Gingerbread Man.
During our independent reading time. we are learning how to read on our own using just right books. We love spreading out around the room. We also take turns listening to reading using books on CD and books online. Soon we will start learning how to partner read and will be reading just right passages and doing Reader's Theater.
Grandparent's Day was a HUGE success. It was so wonderful to see the kids with their special adults. After the students had breakfast and visited the book fair, they were able to visit the classroom where they could show their guests around and share all about their day. We had various stations set up where kids and grandparents could interview each other, they could do a grandparent coloring page. they could read with their grandparent or make a turkey headband. I think a fun time was had by all.
I think these are the cutest turkeys ever!
