March 6, 2016

We have been busy bees the last few weeks in Kindergarten.  During stations, we are practicing our new math and reading skills. We love working with our partner and showing what we know.

For President's Day, we did a study on George Washington, Abraham Lincoln and Barack Obama. We will continue our work as we study United States symbols.

We had great fun celebrating Dr. Seuss during Read Across America week.
In art, we created amazing self portraits.

In art, we also created Yertle the Turtle turtle stacks.

We had a special visit from Maverick's player Tyler Barnes. He read the Cat in the Hat to our class. We even got to ask him questions about playing hockey.

Dress like a Dr. Seuss character was a huge success.

In math, we have been working hard on understanding numbers to 100. We have worked on comparing numbers and determining more or less. We played a game called Compare. You might remember it like the card game War. You can use any deck of cards, but take out the face cards. Divide the cards in half. One person flips over a card. The other person flips over a card. The person with more wins the cards. Switch it up and play who has less wins. If your child is ready for a challenge, play Double Compare. Turn over two cards and determine the sum, your partner turns over two cards and determines the sum. The person with the greatest sum or smallest sum, depending on how you're playing, wins the cards. If your child is doing great, add another card and play Triple Compare.

In Jolly Phonics, we started our 3rd Unit. The first lesson dealt with ph making the /f/sound. I hid a series of pictures around our classroom. The kids had to find the pictures and determine if it had a /ph/ or /p/ sound. Then they had to work to write each word. We created a chart with the /ph/ words we found.

We have been so busy and we are getting smarter every day!
