Week 5 in Kindergarten

This week we learned about our data folders. Each student will have a data folder where he/she will keep track of progress and set goals on specific skills. The kids will fill in and date their graphs to monitor growth. Data folders will be shared at conferences, but you are welcome to see them at any time.

This week we had another visit from Zero the Hero. He brought us Super Hero Calendar Capes to help us be Super Hero Calendar Helpers. Maryssa was our first helper. Everyone is looking forward to his/her turn.

Week 4 In Kindergarten

In math, we have been learning about the numbers 1-5. We are learning how to recognize, write and represent numbers. We made anchor charts to show us ways to represent each number. We will continue to make charts for each number to 20. The students can use them during the year as a reference.

We used counters to show ways to represent numbers.

We have been learning how to use our SMART board. It is fun to practice our popcorn words using the SMART board.

We have been doing such a great job practicing our stations.

In writing, we have been learning how to add to our picture by using labels. We made an anchor chart to help our thinking.

We are getting smarter everyday!

Week 3 in Kindergarten

This week we kicked off our first Jolly Phonics Unit. Each of the 7 units has 6 sounds. With each sound we have a story, song and action. Your child will be bringing home a small book of sounds to practice.
Our first sounds were /s/, /a/, /t/, /i/, /p/. We will do /n/ on Monday and Tuesday will be a day for review before we begin the next unit.

We are also working on our popcorn words. Your child should be able to read the words:  blue, and, yellowred. This week, we will work on the following words:  green, a

The words are ready on our popcorn word chart.

After we have learned the words, they are added to our word wall as a daily resource during reading and writing.

We had fun making our rainbow names.

This week we also started our reading stations. Our station activities are in buckets the students can take to their desk. We have alphabet activities, word work activities, popcorn word activities and more.

This is where we store our station buckets.

Our favorite story this week was Pete the Cat  I Love My White Shoes. You can check out the song and story on www.youtube.com
