We had so much fun learning about various versions of the Gingerbread Man stories. We compared characters, refrains and endings. Boy that fox seems to cause trouble every time.
One of our favorite versions was The Gingerbread Girl by local author Lisa Campbell Ernst. In this version, the girl outsmarts the fox and survives. Go Girl!
We did a science experiment to see if the gingerbread boy should have tried to ford the river instead of getting on the fox's back. We developed our hypothesis, and then put our gingerbread cookie to the test. As one of the kids said, "He was doomed either way!"
Bridges were made to help the gingerbread man cross the river and avoid the fox. We used clay, straws, pipe cleaners and packing peanuts.
