Week 9 in kindergarten

We are having such fun in stations each day. We have a variety of stations which allow us to work on specific reading skills. During this time, I can work with small groups or one-on-one with specific stations.

Our writing station lets the children free write. Many of them create books or cards for friends and family. There are many books available that can teach the children to draw specific things. I love seeing their creativity.

Our write the room station is a favorite in our classroom. The children get a clipboard and go in search around the room for cards. The cards may be rhyming cards, beginning sounds or words related to science or social studies.

The computer station allows the children to work on safe educational websites. Some of our favorites are www.abcmouse.com  and www.starfall.com  We even get to play Jolly Phonics games. We just recently were given three Chrome books for our classroom. We are very excited about more technology time.

The puzzles station has children working on color puzzles, alphabet puzzles or rhyming puzzles. The puzzles will sometimes be related to science or social studies and will increase in complexity as we continue during the year.

The listening station allows children to listen to books on CD. This is a great way to enjoy books and even helps build fluency. We will soon learn how to listen to books on MP3 players and on an ipad.

The alphabet station gives children an opportunity to work with putting letters in order, practicing beginning sounds and handwriting.

The dry erase board station gives children an opportunity to practice handwriting. We practice writing our names, our friends' names, letters, numbers and popcorn words.

The play-doh station is another favorite in our room. I love it because they are practicing many academic skills and building their fine motor skills. They love it, because everyone loves play-doh! They get to build their names, numbers, letters and popcorn words. We have many cut out shapes and tools available as well.

The word work station allows students an opportunity to work on sounding out words. We have been working on spelling our friends' names, color words and popcorn words. We recently introduced our Word Whammers made by Leap Frog. The kids can hear the sounds and build their own words or words given to them. Make sure to check them out on Amazon.

Our popcorn word station has many games that help us recognize and build our popcorn words.

Watch for more to come soon about math stations.
